Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp butter (for frying)
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Add ground beef, ground pork, onion, egg, allspice, nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the breadcrumb mixture. Mix until well combined.
- Form mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Fry the meatballs in batches until browned on all sides and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the pan.
- Stir in heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer until sauce thickens, about 5-7 minutes.
- Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for another 5 minutes.
- Serve warm with mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
Notes
- For a smoother texture, grate the onion instead of chopping.
- Use a mixture of pork and beef for best flavor.
- Leftovers keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days.
