Description

Air Fryer Chicken Katsu is a healthier take on the classic Japanese dish, featuring crispy breaded chicken cutlets cooked to perfection in an air fryer.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Tonkatsu sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice chicken breasts in half horizontally to create 4 thinner cutlets. Pound to even thickness if needed.
  3. Season chicken with salt and pepper.
  4. Dredge each cutlet in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, then coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Spray both sides of the breaded chicken with cooking spray.
  6. Place chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. Serve hot with tonkatsu sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, lightly toast the panko breadcrumbs before coating.
  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
  • Pairs well with shredded cabbage and steamed rice.
